God has given us a great big world to be born into and our mandate is to explore it, discover everything we can about it, and enjoy it in a way that is fashioned after his methods – he loves his creation. To do a good job, we need to discover everything we can about him, about his challenge to us to join in saving his world, and about how to do that with others. At Sahali Fellowship, therefore, we offer the following on-line discovery opportunities. Send an email to pastorhenry@sahalifellowship.com to register for any of the courses listed below. Discover this world that belongs to God.
Each course includes assigned Bible readings
with written reactions, a book to read and a book report to write, and some msn
on-line dialogues with the group registered.
1.
Discover Jesus –
who is he and what did he come here for?
Either Jesus is who he says he is or he is a
demented liar. Explore how Jesus is
God, how he lived and why that is important, and the purpose behind his death
and resurrection. Explore also what all
that has to do with you.
2.
Discover Church –
what is it really and how does it fit into religion?
The church seems more like a large
organization that needs a lot of money to stay in business than a family of
support and encouragement. Sad thing, that.
Explore the church and, since it is God’s idea to have it, what it
should look like.
3.
Discover Baptism
– why all the emphasis on this water ritual?
Some get sprinkled, some get poured, some get
dunked. Explore the reason Jesus
instituted baptism for our benefit and the value of it to your life.
4.
Discover Communion
– do we actually have to eat flesh and drink blood?
Sometimes called the Lord’s Supper or the
Last Supper or Mass. Communion uses
physical elements to empower the participant with spiritual reality. Explore
the depths of communing with God.
5.
Discover Reformed Faith
– is a denomination really of any value?
Sahali Fellowship is part of the Christian
Reformed Church. Explore the important
principles – The Bible as God’s only
word, Jesus as the only Savior, Grace as the only way to salvation, Faith as
the only access, etc.
6.
Discover Worship
– what goes on and why should I participate?
Worship is what I give to God. He does so much for me that when I worship I
honor him. It is not about me and what
I get; but rather, about what I bring to him.
Explore the components of worship and the reasons for each.
7.
Discover Bible –
is this book really as important as people say it is?
The Bible is God’s truth but is it
scientific? Is it all true or only some of it? Is it literal or interpretive?
Explore reasons to believe that the Bible is actually God speaking as well as
practical means of using that Word for daily inspiration.
8.
Discover Prayer –
how can one talk to what seems like nothing there?
Most people go to God to ask. Prayer is more dialogue than requests. The
Bible to prayer invites us continually. How does that work? Explore the
simplicity of and personal value of a regular prayer life.
9.
Discover Spiritual Gifts
– what did God make me good at?
The inventor knows his invention best. He knows how he made it and why each part is
included. He does not throw in extra
parts that are of no help to the function of the invention. God is your inventor. Explore how he put you together so that you
that you better understand your purpose.
10.
Discover Finances
– isn’t the church really just all about money?
Making ends meet is the struggle of most
every person and family. Every time you
feel like you’re getting somewhere, something happens to throw a glitch into
it. Explore God’s financial principles
and how it relates to you. (Budgeting assistance is available on request)
11.
Discover Fellowship
– do I really need another thing to do or go to?
People can live quite well these days without
social contact. With computers, phones,
and drive-thru for everything, we hardly need to see people. Except that we kind of miss
connectedness. Explore the Creator’s design
of community – the whys and hows of connexion.
12. Discover God’s Mission – what is God up to in the big picture?
Everyone wants his or her life to count. Somehow what we do needs to have lasting impact on the world. The way to do that is to participate in the greatest adventure in the universe – God’s. Explore the ways in which you can make an eternal impact in God’s great kingdom.
